It’s not easy having indoor allergies during lockdown. We’re spending more time in the house and those very allergies might be exacerbated by dust, pollen and even our beloved pets!
To make your summer as comfortable as possible, we’ve busted some of the most common myths around allergies at home – letting you enjoy your summer and hay fever season comfortably...
1. If you’re indoors, are you safe from pollen?
- NO
- Sadly not! Pollen allergies can find their way into the home through open windows or doors, so try to keep them shut no matter how warm it is. The pollen count tends to rise in the evening, so it’s even more important to keep them shut to reduce signs of hay fever
2. Can allergens stick in your hair and on clothes?
- YES
- Allergens like pet hair, dust and pollen can all stick to the fibres in your clothes, hair and even skin. As a preventative measure, it’s worth keeping wardrobe doors closed to block any allergens getting on your clothes, as well as changing your outfit and taking a shower the minute you get home
3. Can pets carry allergens?
- YES
- They may be cute and fluffy, but pets can be guilty of carrying pollen and dust in their fur – which sadly means all those cuddles could be triggering your allergic reactions. So, keep interactions with your pet to the kitchen if possible, and definitely don’t let them in your bedroom or on the furniture!
