This summer, you may be thinking “is Hay fever contagious”? Luckily, Hay fever symptoms like itchy eyes, a runny nose and even a tickly cough cannot be passed from person to person – so they’re not contagious. However, if you’re suffering from those Hay fever symptoms, it can sometimes mean you’re spreading germs without even realising.
For instance, during Hay fever season, many symptoms make it tricky not to touch your face – and doing things like blowing your nose, rubbing eyes, or brushing hair out of your face can pass germs to your hands. And just think how many times a day you touch other items with your hands!
That’s why it’s crucial to make sure you’re being as hygienic as possible if you’re suffering from seasonal allergies this summer.
To give some helpful allergy information to help stop the unnecessary spread of germs to others, here are Allergy UK’s 5 top tips:
1. Try not to touch your face! Rubbing your itchy eyes, stuffy nose and your mouth can transfer germs
2. Use hand sanitiser to clean your hands if you’re out and about – and wash them with soap and hot water as much as possible
3. Catch any coughs or sneezes in a disposable tissue, and make sure to bin it straight away!
4. Think about getting some Hay fever relief products like Hay fever eye drops or Hay fever tablets to help manage symptoms
5. Make sure you’ve got a supply of your regular Hay fever treatment at home, ready for any spikes in pollen count or sudden Hay fever symptoms
